Book match
The most commonly used match in the industry. One piece out of every two pieces is turned over, like two pages in a book. It creates a mirrored image pattern, yielding a continuity of grain. Because the tight side and loose side alternate in adjacent leaves, this may result in a noticeable color variation in some species or flitches. It is possible to minimize this effect with special finishing techniques.
Slip match
The second type of matching most commonly used. Adjoining leaves are placed side-by-side without turning over one every two pieces. It is more often used with quarter sliced and rift sliced to maximize the straight grain effect and to minimize the barber pole effect (color variation). It gives no symmetrical effect like the book match.
Slip & swing
The tight grain or the loose grain must be on the same side of the sheet. One leaf out of every two leaves is turned 1800. This match helps to minimize the color variation between two pieces and also to spread out the natural characteristics in the species.
Running match
The exterior veneer leaves are not the same width as the interior leaves. Like the balance matched, it can be book, slip or slip & swing. There are also sequences available.
Center match
This option is available only in the balance matched and each sheet has an even number of leaves. In other words, there is a joint exactly in the center of the sheet. It is perfectly symmetrical, if we consider the natural evolution of the flitches.
Balance match
Each panel face is assembled from veneer leaves of uniform width. It may be book, slip and slip & swing matched. Panels may contain an even or odd number of leaves and distribution may change from panel to panel within a sequenced set.

Details
It is the customer who has to determine the specific criteria of the match he wants.
These criteria could be the width of the coupons, the color variation, the cut of the veneer, etc...
